Messy Battle

The tug of war between the L-G and the CM is a barrier to Delhi's development ambitions

The Lieutenant-Governor, also the close hand of the BJP has turmoil with the Delhi Government of the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP). Just like his peers, Najeeb Jung and Anil Baijal, L-G Vanai Kumar Saxena has been accused of undermining "constitutional sanctity" by the Delhi Jal board's officials, by issuing orders that bypass the Council of Ministers. Over a year the Modi Government has expanded the powers of L-G through an amendment, which was earlier limited to the control of land, public order, and police. Through these amendments, the center reorganized the powers and responsibilities of the Delhi Assembly and L-G which favored the latter. The center has been persistent to control AAP's attempt to implement its government model over the capital. The central government seems to be ready to take measures of any length to clip the wings of AAP. The CM of Delhi himself contributes to the conflicts against the L-G in constant political combat with the BJP. Despite their work in tandem, the relationship between the CM and L-G has got friction over time which is a needless barrier to the development of the capital. Until the court brings clarity on the division of powers between L-G and CM, both should work with mutual assistance and coherence.
